The first HESA Inter-Departmental Debate Competition, sponsored by Orion Group, co-sponsored by IPDC and Ark Foundation took place on October 18th and 19th. Media partners were Prothom Alo and Jamuna TV. A total of 24 teams participated in this two-day event.
The champion of the competition was the Department of Economics. The first runner-up was the Department of Anthropology, followed by the Departments of Political Science and Japanese Studies as the second and third runners-up, respectively.
The best debater awards went to Asif Adnan Ami from the Department of Law and Suprava Subha Zaman from the Department of Economics.
The event featured esteemed adjudicators and advisors renowned for their impactful contributions to the field of debate and across various sectors. Their presence added significant value to the competition, enriching the experience for all participants.
The event concluded with a panel discussion titled "From Barriers to Recovery: Setting Priorities for Economy and Health Sector of Bangladesh," bringing together experts and stakeholders to share insights on reform pathways for a better Bangladesh.
Our expert panelists included Dr. Selim Raihan, an economist at SANEM and the University of Dhaka; Dr. Sajjad Zohir, Executive Director of the Economics Research Group; Dr. Rumana Huque, Executive Director of ARK Foundation and a professor at the University of Dhaka; Abu Muhammad Zakir Hussain, Chairman of the Community Clinic Health Support Trust; and Prof. Dr. Sadrul Alom, Director of the Centre for Medical Education.
