A two-day long 24th National Conference and Green Expo on ‘Policy Frameworks for Enabling Renewable Energy Investment: A Global and Regional Perspective’ has begun today May 22, 2024 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium of Dhaka University (DU). Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A S M Maksud Kamal presided over the inaugural session while Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud, MP addressed it as chief guest. The Institute of Energy of DU in cooperation with Greentech Foundation has organized this event.
The inaugural function was addressed by Principal Coordinator of SDG’s Affairs of Prime Minister’s Office Md. Akhter Hossain, CEO of Infrastructure Development Company Ltd. Md. Alamgir Morshed, President of Bangladesh Solar Renewable Energy Association Engr. Md. Nurul Aktar and Chairman of Sustainable & Renewable Energy Development Authority Munira Sultana ndc as special guests. Advisor of Greentech Foundation Bangladesh & Faculty Member of BIBM Khondkar Morshed Millat delivered the key-note speech. Associate Professor of the Institute of Energy of DU Dr. S M Nasif Shams delivered welcome address while Executive Director & CEO of Greentech Foundation Bangladesh Lutfor Rahman gave vote of thanks.
Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud MP urged the leaders of developed counties to come forward with financial support for reducing disaster risk in the most vulnerable countries like Bangladesh due to global climate change. The developed countries are mainly responsible for carbon emission. Therefore, they have responsibilities to play vital role to protect global environment, he added. He said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has set goal for producing 40 percent renewable energy in the country by 2041. He urged the professionals and researchers to work together to achieve this goal. He stressed the need for updating energy policy to attain more success in this sector.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A S M Maksud Kamal stressed the need for formulating short-term and long-term policy to increase production of green energy as well as make our environment free from all sorts of pollutions. He emphasized on strengthening public-private partnership to achieve more success in this regard. He urged the students to play pioneering role to make our environment clean. The VC expressed his willingness to provide training on renewable energy and environment at DU for youths to make them skilled human resources. He sought cooperation from both the public and private sectors for arranging training program.
