A two-day long International Conference on ‘Sociology of Sufism, Perfected Humanity and Divine Quest for Social Harmony’ has begun today September 10, 2023 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium of Dhaka University (DU). Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the conference while Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni, MP addressed it as chief guest. DU World Religions and Culture Department and Darul Irfan Research Institute (DIRI) have jointly organized this event.
Vice-Chancellor of Chattogram BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology Prof. Dr. Obaidul Karim presided over the inaugural session while Dean of the Faculty of Arts of DU Prof. Dr. Abdul Bashir and Founder of DIRI Syed Emdadul Hoque Maizbhandari addressed it as special guests. Prof. Dr. Amit Dey of the University of Calcutta delivered key-note speech. Managing Trustee of DIRI Shajada Syed Irfanul Hoque delivered welcome address while Chairman of DU World Religions and Culture Department Prof. Dr. Mohammad Jahangir Alam gave vote of thanks.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman stressed the need for making an inclusive society through upholding the values of Sufism. Terming the Sufism as a mystical form of Islam the VC said, all have to work for establishment of peace and harmony in the society following the philosophy of Sufism.
Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni said, Sufism teaches to pay respect each other, foster humanitarian values, love for mankind and uphold tolerance among the people. She urged all to play an effective role in making humanitarian and secular society.
