Former Foreign Minister of Guatemala Luis Fernando Cerrera Castro called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique today, November 30, 2015 at the latter’s office of the university. It may be mentioned that Mr. Luis Castro is also a former Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the United Nations, former Secretary to the Ministry of Planning in Guatemala and former President of the Executive Board of Directors of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS.
During the meeting they discussed matters of mutual interest specially the possibilities of undertaking effective collaborative programs on population science between the University of Dhaka and different bodies of United Nations including UNFPA. They also discussed regarding the development of research activities on population sciences at Dhaka University as well as Bangladesh. The UNFPA delegate expressed his keen interest in providing support and cooperation to Dhaka University for conducting further research in this regard.
Later, former Foreign Minister of Guatemala Luis Fernando Cerrera Castro delivered a lecture on “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the New Financing Architecture: Implications for Nations of the South” at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university. Dhaka University Population Sciences Department organized the program. Chairman of DU Population Sciences Department Dr. Md. Aminul Haque presided over the function while Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. Nasreen Ahmad addressed it as chief guest.
