Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering adds a new dimension to the expansion of modern technology in recent years. The theoretical underpinning of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering is a synergistic blend of Mechanical, Electrical and Computer Engineering. It is fairly a new branch of engineering in Bangladesh, but it is well-established in the developed countries as in today's high-tech world, the integration of the three fields is in high demand. With the demand of this era of modern technology, the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of the University of Dhaka established the Department of Mechatronics Engineering on 8 September, 2015 with Professor Dr. Hafiz Md. Hasan Babu as the founder chairman. Later, on 21 June 2016, the department has been renamed as the Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering under the leadership of Professor Dr. Hafiz Md. Hasan Babu.
The department has started its academic activities from 2015-16 academic session with 16 students in the B.Sc (Hons.) program at the Kazi Motahar Hossain Bhaban of the university. The department is currently establishing its own laboratories and equipping the classrooms with modern education materials with the aim of establishing a modern department at the university.
This new department is expected to train aspirant young talents from around the country to become efficient Robotics and Mechatronics Engineers who will contribute to industrial automation, automated garments industry, enhanced energy systems as well as many other areas essential for the growth of many budding sectors of Bangladesh.
