Department of Management Information Systems at the University of Dhaka recently organized insightful Industrial Visits to the largest data center in Bangladesh, "Bangladesh Data Centre Company Limited" (BDCCL). The visits took place on 24 and 31 July 2023 and included 54 fourth-year undergraduate MIS students selected based on their quiz performance.
The students were split into two groups, each visiting BDCCL on separate days. Professor Dr. Rabeya Sultana, Associate Professor Dr. Ashis Talukder, Assistant Professor Dr. Nymatul Jannat Nipa, and Lecturer Jahangir Alam Shahin supervised the visits. Additionally, an office staff member accompanied the students.
The data center, the world's 7th largest and Bangladesh's largest Tier-4 facility left a lasting impression on the students due to its enormity. The employees of BDCCL acted as guides, enriching the experience. Additionally, the students were provided with meals and snacks, ensuring their enjoyment throughout the tour. After visiting the data center, the students also had the opportunity to see the National Martyrs' Monument.
The Industrial Visits served as a valuable opportunity for the students to gain practical knowledge in their field of study and provided a recreational experience for those studying Management Information Systems. These events also showcased the potential for future Industrial Visits further to enhance practical education for students in relevant fields.
