Dr. Md. Arafat Al Mamun is a professional microbiologist and expert in Fermentation Biotechnology. His research goal is to develop human and environmental friendly biotech products including fermented food, feed, fertilizer, microbial enzymes and probiotic starter culture which are significant and relevant from Bangladesh's point of view. He has innovated simple but unique low-cost methods to produce fermented biotech products ranging from probiotic feed additives to distinctive starter cultures for preparation of fermented foods. Dr. Mamun completed his B.Sc., M.Sc., and PhD studies at the Department of Microbiology, and he actively participated in the development of the enzymes used in leather processing during his PhD research. He had recognized as JSPS HOPE fellow in 2014 and later awarded JICA-Kirin fellowship to study at Food Research Institute, NARO, Tsukuba, Japan in 2018. He gained the SSC and HSC degrees from Rangpur Cadet College and awarded best disciplined cadet in 2002. He is currently employed as a Principal Scientist in the Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences (CARS), University of Dhaka. In addition to holding four patents (under the assessment of DPDT), Dr. Mamun has published thirty publications in both domestic and foreign journals.
