A day-long annual conference of Association of Humboldt Fellows Bangladesh (AHFB) was held today January 25, 2020 at CARS of Dhaka University (DU). Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the conference.
President of AHFB Prof. Dr. Md. Imdadul Hoque presided over the inaugural session while German Ambassador in Bangladesh Peter Fahrenholtz addressed it as the chief guest. Vice-Chancellor of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Prof. Dr. Kamal Uddin Ahamed addressed the function as special guest. General Secretary of AHFB Prof. Dr. Masum Ahmad gave vote of thanks.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman stressed the need for strengthening cooperation in the fields of education and research among the universities and industries to achieve Sustainable Development Goals. He urged the researchers to conduct advanced level research to meet societal needs. He said, the world is now facing various challenges of fourth industrial revolution. We have to make our population more dynamic and skilled with technology to overcome these challenges, he added.
German Ambassador Peter Fahrenholtz said, Bangladesh has made tremendous progress in various sectors including business, economy, health, education, IT, poverty reduction as well as women empowerment. German government will continue support and cooperation to Bangladesh in its developing efforts as a development partner, he added. He stressed the need for strengthening academic exchange program between Bangladesh and Germany. He also expressed willingness to increase the number of visa for students and researchers of Bangladesh for higher study in Germany.
It may be mentioned that 60 members of AHFB from different universities participated in the conference.
