A day-long Fourth Women’s Mathematics Olympiad was held today March 8, 2020 at AF Mujibur Rahman Ganit Bhaban of Dhaka University (DU). Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the event as chief guest. The Women’s Mathematics Olympiad Committee and AF Mujibur Rahman Foundation in cooperation with the Department of Mathematics of DU have jointly organized this event to celebrate International Women’s Day.
Director of Women’s Mathematics Olympiad Committee Prof. Dr. Chandra Nath Podder presided over the inaugural function while Chairman of the Department of Mathematics Prof. Dr. Amal Krishna Halder and Chairman of the Department of Applied Mathematics Prof. Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam were, among others, present on this occasion.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman urged the female students to play pivotal role for bringing changes in the society as well as stopping all sorts of violence against women. He also called upon the female students to raise their voices against violence and face the evil forces courageously. He stressed the need for creating awareness about women’s rights to make the society free from various abuses. We have to make the celebration of “Mujib Year 2020” fruitful through establishment of women’s dignity and rights in the society, DU VC hoped.
About 250 under-graduate female students from different public and private universities including Dhaka University participated in the Olympiad.
