A virtual meeting with the UK Minister for Universities Mr. Michelle Donelan, MP regarding the UK Government’s £100 million Turing Education Scheme was held yesterday, February 25, 2021 in London. Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman along with Council Members of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) joined this meeting.
Under this Turing Education Scheme the UK Government will enhance international academic cooperation, provide global educational opportunities and promote engagement of international partner institutions.
DU VC Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman in his speech lauded the role of UK Government for launching this new education scheme. He said, this education scheme would help to undertake reciprocal exchange programs of students between Dhaka University and UK Universities. He further said, this scheme is the fantastic opportunity for Commonwealth Universities to mobilise international students and sharing experiences. This education scheme of UK Government would play a vital role in enhanching inter-university relations, DU VC added.
DU VC assured the UK Minister Mr. Michelle Donelan that DU authorities would provide accommodation and other supports to UK students during their stay in DU under this new education scheme program. He also requested the authorities concern to receive faculties and students of DU to UK universities on different academic programs under this scheme.
President and Vice-Chancellor of Cardiff University, UK and Vice-Chair of ACU Prof. Colin Riordan chaired and moderated the meeting while ACU Council Members, Vice-Chancellors of different leading universities of the world and high officials of UK Education Ministry attended the meeting.
