A two-day long international e-conference on ‘Women in 100 Years: Changes and Challenges in the Light of Development Goals and COVID-19’ has begun today, March 9, 2021. Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated this conference as the chief guest. The Department of Women and Gender Studies of DU has organized the conference in cooperation with UNDP and UKaid marking the International Women’s Day.
Chairperson of the Department of Women and Gender Studies of DU Dr. Sanzida Akhter presided over the inaugural session of the conference while Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Sadeka Halim, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mohammed Abdul Mannan, Program Manager of British High Commission, Dhaka Farzana Mustafa and Vice-President of Urban Development Journalists Forum Kamrun Nahar addressed it as special guests. Distinguished fellow of CPD Dr. Rounaq Jahan delivered the key-note speech.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman stressed the need for ensuring women rights, women empowerment and gender equality in every sphere of our life to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He also emphasized on creating an inclusive society to make Bangladesh a developed country. The VC thanked the organizers of this international e-conference. Some effective and pragmatic recommendations would come out of this conference, he hoped.
Many local and internationally renowned experts from USA, Canada, India and Thailand are participating at this conference.
