A two-day long 6th International Conference on ‘Business and Economics’ has begun today March 01, 2023 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University (DU). DU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated this conference while Industries Minister Mr. Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, MP addressed the inaugural function virtually as chief guest. DU Faculty of Business Studies has organized this event. This year the theme of the conference is ‘Global Economic Vulnerability and Business Sustainability’.
Presided over by the Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abdul Moyeen the inaugural function was addressed by DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Samad and Treasurer Prof. Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed as Special Guests. Eminent Professor Dr. Fred Philllips of the University of New Mexico, USA delivered the keynote speech on ‘Sustainable Business: Lying, Crying or Honestly Trying’. Co-Chair of the conference Prof. Dr. M. Sadiqul Islam of Finance Department gave vote of thanks.
Mr. Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun said, this conference has created an opportunity for persons of various disciplines including academicians and researchers to share their knowledge and cope with the global economic challenges in post pandemic situations. He emphasized on conducting more fundamental researches and fostering innovation for sustainable economy. Bangladesh Government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina provides all sorts of support and co-operation to local business community for development of our economy, the Minister added.
Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman said, most of the countries are facing economic crisis due to ongoing Russia-Ukraine War and post pandemic situation. The global community is trying hard to tackle the economic crisis and continuing efforts for recovery from this crisis. Collaborative researches and initiatives can help improve the global economic crisis. He urged academics, researchers, economists, policymakers, industrialists, professionals and businessmen to find out sustainable solutions for overcoming the global challenges and crisis created by Russia-Ukraine war and post pandemic situations.
DU VC thanked Prof. Dr. Fred Phillips for presenting a wonderful and unique key-note paper at the inaugural function of the conference.
