‘Prof. Dr. Rabea Khatun Trust Fund’ established at DU
A new trust fund titled ‘Prof. Dr. Rabea Khatun Trust Fund’ has been established at the Department of Sociology of Dhaka University (DU). Prof. Dr. Syeda Lasna Kabir of DU Public Administration Department handed over a cheaque for Tk. 10 lac to DU Treasurer Prof. Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed today April 12, 2022 at the Vice-Chancellor’s Launge to set up this trust fund in memory of her mother Prof. Dr. Rabea Khatun. Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman was present there as chief guest.
Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Zia Rahman, Chairman of the Department of Public Administration Prof. Dr. Ferdous Arfina Osman, Registrar Prabir Kumar Sarker, Prof. Dr. Rabea Khatun’s classmate Khaleda Banu Rahman and donor’s family members were present on this occasion.
Out of the income of this Trust Fund, every year one male and one female student of BSS (Hons.) and one male and one female student of MSS class of the Department of Sociology will be given ‘Prof. Dr. Rabea Khatun Trust Fund’scholarship.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman paid tributes to the memory of Prof. Dr. Rabea Khatun and thanked Prof. Dr. Syeda Lasna Kabir for her donation to establish this trust fund. He hoped that the students of Sociology Department would be highly inspired and benefitted by this generous initiative.
It may be mentioned that Prof. Dr. Rabea Khatun was a former teacher of DU Sociology Department. She was also Provost of DU Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall. She died on April 17, 2021 in USA.
