A Two-day long international conference on ‘Emerging Population Issues And Sustainable Development Goals’ under the auspices of Dhaka University (DU) Population Sciences Department in cooperation with UNFPA Bangladesh concludes today December 08, 2021 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban. DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Samad virtually attended the closing session as chief guest.
Presided over by Chairman of DU Population Sciences Dept. Prof. Dr. Md. Rabiul Haque the concluding function was also addressed by Mr. Mahbub-E-Elahi of UNFPA, Bangladesh as special guest. Associate Professor of Population Sciences Department Mr. A H M Kishowar Hossain presents Rapporteur’s Report and Prof. Dr. Md. Aminul Haque gave the vote of thanks.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Samad said, globally emerging population issues like demographic transition, epidemiological transition, demographic dividend, internal and international migration and climate change have become important concerns among researchers, policymakers and development partners due to their diverse socioeconomic, environmental and demographic implications. Addressing these core issues are significantly important to accelerate human development and achieving our Vision 2041 and SDGs by 2030. This international conference has highlighted and explored different forms of emerging population and sustainable development goals related issues in the global context and Bangladesh, in particular, as well.
He further said, now we are living in the world of almost 7.8 billion population where the world population is projected to reach 9.9 billion by 2050. This increasing trend of the human population is really a big challenge to achieve SDGs ensuring quality life for all of us. However, Bangladesh is one of the promising countries towards attaining the targets of SDGs on action to end hunger and reducing poverty.
