Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman urged academics, researchers, economists, technologists, policymakers and faculties to conduct more fundamental research and foster innovation in the light of pandemic and SDGs. The Vice-Chancellor made this call while speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of the two-day long virtual ‘5th International Conference on Business and Economics’ at Dhaka University (DU) today 25 September 2021. The Faculty of Business Studies of DU organized this conference. This year the theme of the conference is ‘Business and Economy in the New-normal Landscape’.
Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman said, COVID-19 pandemic poses a great threat to many countries and nations to achieve the SDGs by 2030. The whole world is affected by this pandemic at individual, organizational and national levels. But Bangladesh under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is doing much better than other countries towards the tremendous progress and success in achieving SDGs and socio-economic conditions. As a recognition Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has recently been awarded the ‘Jewel in the crown of the day’ by the UN, DU VC pointed out.
DU VC thanked Prof. Bernadine Van Gramberg for presenting a wonderful and unique key-note paper at the inaugural function of the conference.
DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Samad, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. A. S. M. Maksud Kamal, Treasurer Prof. Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed and Chairman of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission Prof. Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam addressed the inaugural session as Special Guests. Pro-Vice Chancellor of Swinburne University of Technology, Australia Prof. Bernadine Van Gramberg delivered the keynote speech on ‘Balancing Health and the Economy during COVID-19’. Dean of Faculty of Business Studies Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abdul Moyeen presided over the inaugural function. Co-chair of the conference Prof. Dr. M. Sadiqul Islam also addressed the inaugural program.
