‘New Gold Medal’ introduced at DU

‘Commander Abdur Rouf Memorial Gold Medal and Scholarship’ have been introduced at the Department of Population Sciences of Dhaka University (DU). Gitali Hasan, daughter of late Commander Abdur Rouf handed over a cheque for Tk. 15 lac to DU Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin today (Thursday), April 21, 2016 at the Vice-Chancellor’s office to introduce the gold medal and scholarship.

Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Farid Uddin Ahmed, Chairman of the Department of Population Sciences Dr. Aminul Haque, donor’s husband LT (Rtd.) Shah Muhammed Hasan and Executive Director of Population Services and Training Center Dr. Noor Mohammad were present on this occasion.

Out of the income of this donation, every year one meritorious student who will secure the highest CGPA in BSS (Hons.) final examination from the Department of Population Sciences of DU will be awarded ‘Commander Abdur Rouf Memorial Gold Medal’. Besides, two more students of the department will be given scholarships.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique thanked the donor for introducing these gold medal and scholarship at Dhaka University and hoped that the students would be highly benefited and encouraged from this donation. He paid his glowing tribute to the memory of late Commander Abdur Rouf. DU VC also said, he is a former naval officer and educationist. Besides, he was one of the organizers of liberation war in 1971 and one of the accused in the ‘Agartala Conspiracy Case’, the VC added.

It may be mentioned that late Commander Abdur Rouf was born on November 11, 1939 and died on February 27, 2015.
