A new subject named Robotics Engineering, first of its kind in Bangladesh, has been opened at Dhaka University and name of newly opened Mechatronics Engineering Department of DU has been changed as “Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering”. This was decided at a Syndicate meeting held on June 21, 2016 with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique in the chair.

            It is mentioned here that academic activities of the Mechatronics Engineering Department started at Dhaka University under 2015-2016 academic session with 16 students and 3 teachers. Prof. Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Hasan Babu is the founder Chairman and Dr. Sejuti Rahman and Dr. Shamim Ahmed Dewan are teachers of this new department.

            This renamed “Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering” Department of DU will now on produce skilled Robotic Engineers in the country and meet the demands of modern industries including power sector, renewable energy sector and garments sector.
