A new trust fund titled ‘Professor Mofizuddin Ahmed-Begum Sufia Ahmed Trust Fund’ has been established at the Department of Chemistry of Dhaka University (DU). Prof. Dr. Nishat Ahmed Pasha, daughter of late Professor Mofizuddin Ahmed handed over a cheque for Tk. 15 lac to DU Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin today (Wednesday), August 24, 2016 at the Vice-Chancellor’s office to set up this trust fund in memories of her parents.

Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Aziz, late Professor Mofizuddin Ahmed’s daughter Mrs. Yasmeen Ahmed Rahman, son-in-law Mr. Abdullah Haroon Pasha and Acting Registrar Md. Enamuzzaman were present on this occasion.  

Out of the income of this donation, every year one meritorious student who will secure the highest CGPA in BS (Hons.) final examination from the Department of Chemistry of DU will be awarded ‘Professor Mofizuddin Ahmed-Begum Sufia Ahmed Gold Medal’. Besides, two more students of the department will be given scholarships.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique thanked the donors for setting up this trust fund at Dhaka University and hoped that the students would be highly benefited and encouraged from this donation. He paid his glowing tribute to the memory of late Professor Emeritus Mofizuddin Ahmed. He was an honest and sincere teacher, the VC also said. He urged the students to follow the ideals of late Emeritus Professor Mofizuddin Ahmed to make themselves as worthy citizen.    

It may be mentioned that late Dr. Mofizuddin Ahmed was an Emeritus Professor of the Department of Chemistry of Dhaka University. He was born on May 2, 1921 and died on September 26, 1997. Late Begum Sufia Ahmed, wife of late Emeritus Professor Mofizuddin Ahmed was born in 1929 and died in 2000.
