A total of 10 meritorious students of various departments under the Faculty of Biological Sciences and the Faculty of Earth & Environmental Sciences of Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded “Nagao Natural Environment Foundation (NEF), Japan scholarship” for their outstanding academic results. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed scholarships among the students as chief guest at a function held today September 5, 2016 at the VC’s lounge of the university.

Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences of DU Prof. Dr. M. Imdadul Hoque, Dean of the Faculty of Earth & Environmental Sciences Prof. Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal, DU Representative of NEF Bangladesh Committee Prof. Dr. Mohammad Zabed Hossain and Chairmen of various departments were present on this occasion.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique urged the students to equip themselves with moral values to make Bangladesh a peaceful country. ‘We want to produce morally developed graduates along with their academic excellence at the university, he added. DU VC said the friendly relationship between Bangladesh and Japan has been prevailing for long time. He called upon the students to play the pioneering role for strengthening these ties between the two countries.  

The recipients of NEF Scholarship are – Raihan Hossain (Oceanography), Nilufa Yasmin (Fisheries), Md. Maruf Hossain, Farin Ahmed Meem (Botany),         Md. Rana Arafat (Soil, Water & Environment) Maisha Mahzabin, Sanchita Bhowmick (Zoology), Sabina Akter (Microbiology), Umme Habiba Iqbal (Geography & Environment) and Bristi Rani Podder (Biochemistry & Molecular Biology).
