A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Institute of Social Welfare and Research (ISWR) of Dhaka University (DU) and HelpAge International was signed today September 22, 2016 at the Vice-Chancellor’s office of DU to improve the quality of life of elderly people in Bangladesh. Treasurer of DU Prof.   Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin and Country Director of HelpAge International Nirjharinee Hasan signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institution.

Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Director of ISWR Prof. Dr. Tania Rahman, Prof. Dr. ASM Atiqur Rahman, Prof. Dr. Md.  Nurul Islam, Associate Professors Dr. Md. Hafiz Uddin Bhuiyan, Dr. Md. Rabiul Islam, Acting Registrar Md. Enamuzzaman and higher officials from HepAge International were present on this occasion.   

According to the MoU, the Institute of Social Welfare and Research of DU and HelpAge International will work together to develop the quality of life of elderly people in Bangladesh. They will jointly organize seminar, workshop and conduct research activities on this burning issue. Besides, the two institutions will work together to create awareness among the people and the policy maker in this regard.

            Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique called upon all to respect the elders in the society. He urged the students to understand the problems of elderly people and solve those through research. He thanked the HelpAge International authorities for signing the MoU and hoped that it would play an effective role to promote the quality of life of elderly people.
