A day-long IEEE Congress (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers Congress) with the theme of “Advancing Technology for Humanity” was held today November 4, 2016 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University (DU). IEEE Student Branch DU organized the program. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the congress as the chief guest.
Professor of the Department of EEE of DU Dr. Atiqur Rahman Ahad presided over the inaugural session while Chair of IEEE Bangladesh Section Prof. S A Fattah addressed it as special guest.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique urged the students of Electrical Engineering to work together for establishing societal harmony and natural justice at different parts of the world. “We are now passing very hard days in the entire world due to barbaric terrorism, fundamentalism, religious bigotry and social incivility”, he said. “We must inculcate the spirit of humanity among our youths and students”, he added.
It may be mentioned that a total of 400 students from various countries participated in the congress.
