Fourteen meritorious students of the Department of History of Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded “Bangabir General Osmany Scholarship” for their outstanding academic performances. Five more students of the department have received “Anjuman Mufidul Islam Scholarship”. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed scholarships among the students as chief guest at a function held today November 21, 2016 at the Sirajul Islam Lecture Hall of the university. Bangabir General Osmany Scholarship Fund & IT Centre of DU History Department organized the program.
Chairperson of the Department of History Prof. Sonia Nishat Amin presided over the function while former Chief Election Commissioner Dr. ATM Shamsul Huda delivered General MAG Osmany Memorial Lecture on ‘The Politics of Policy Making’. Chairman of Board of Management of General Osmany Scholarship Fund & IT Centre Prof. Shireen Hasan Osmany delivered welcome speech.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique urged the students to learn the history of our Liberation War to make themselves as worthy citizen. He also called upon the students to work together to fulfill expectations of general public. He said, teachers and students have to be accountable to their consciences.
Former Chief Election Commissioner Dr. ATM Shamsul Huda stressed the need for making coordination among the government agencies to formulate comprehensive policy as well as implement it properly. We need combined efforts of all policy makers, government officials and concerned stakeholders to implement policies successfully, he added.
The recipients of General Osmany Scholarship are: Md. Enamul Haque, Prodeep Debanath, Md. Habibullah, Md. Elias Hossain, Ruhul Amin, Jannatul Maua, Mst. Sajeda Bhanu, Sanjida Akter, Mst. Nurunnahar, Shampa Khatun, Asmaul Husna, Mst. Sraboni, Saraban Tahura and Dipu Kumar.
The recipients of Anjuman Mufidul Islam Scholarship are: Md. Kamruzzaman, Panna Akhter, Mst. Feroza Khatun, Shabnam Mustareen and Mst. Shamsunnahar Sumi.
