A new trust fund titled “Azfar Alam Memorial Trust Fund” has been set up at the Department of Computer Science & Engineering and the Department of Robotics & Mechatronics Engineering of Dhaka University (DU). Gulshan Ara Alam,  mother of late Azfar Alam handed over a cheque for Tk. 15 lac to DU Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin today December 01, 2016 at the Vice-Chancellor’s office to set up this trust fund.

Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Farid Uddin Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Prof. Dr. Rafiqul Islam, Chairman of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering Prof. Dr. Sabbir Ahmed, Chairman of the Department of Robotics & Mechatronics Engineering Lafifa Jamal, Acting Registrar Md. Enamuzzaman and relative of the donor Rezaul Karim Khandaker were present on this occasion.

Out of the income of this donation, every year one meritorious student who will secure the highest CGPA in BS (Honors) examination from the Department of Robotics & Mechatronics Engineering of DU will be awarded “Azfar Alam Gold Medal.” Besides, some other poor but meritorious students of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering of DU will be given scholarship.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Arefin Siddique thanked the donor for her donation. He also paid his glowing tribute to the memory of late Azfar Alam.

It may be mentioned that late Azfar Alam, the only son of A K M Shah Alam and Gulshan Ara Alam was born on March 5, 1993 in California, USA. He was a brilliant student of Computer Science of the University of California. He had been awarded US Presidential Award for his outstanding academic performance. He died in a tragic accident in the USA on July 11, 2015.
