A new trust fund titled “Justice Sikandar Ali Memorial Trust Fund” has been set up at the Department of Law of Dhaka University (DU). Sarwar Sultana,  Retired UNDP Resident Representative and daughter of late Justice Sikandar Ali handed over a cheque for Tk. 14 lac to DU Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin today December 04, 2016 at the Vice-Chancellor’s office to set up this trust fund.

Speaker of the National Parliament Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury,  Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Pro Vice- Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. Nasreen Ahmad, Dean of the Faculty of Law Prof. Dr. Taslima Monsoor, Chairman of the Department of Law    Prof. Dr. Borhan Uddin Khan, former Chairperson of the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism Prof. Akhtar Sultana, Acting Registrar Md. Enamuzzaman and some other relatives of the donor were present on this occasion.

Out of the income of this donation, every year some meritorious students of the Department of Law of DU will be awarded “Justice Sikandar Ali Trust Fund scholarship”.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Arefin Siddique thanked the donor for her donation. He also paid his glowing tribute to the memory of late Justice Sikandar Ali. He hoped that the students of DU Law Department would be highly benefited from this donation.

It may be mentioned that late Justice Sikandar Ali was born on January 1, 1907 in Barlekha, Sylhet. All of his five children were students of Dhaka University.   Speaker of the National Parliament Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury is the grand-daughter of late Justice Sikandar Ali.  One of his daughters, Akhtar Sultana is a Professor of DU Mass Communication & Journalism Department. Justice Ali died on December 31, 1966.
