A two-day long Second International Conference on “Bio-safety and Bio-security” began today December 7, 2016 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium of Dhaka University (DU). Bangladesh Bio-safety and Bio-security Association (BBBA) organized the event.
Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique presided over the inaugural function while Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation Anisul Huq, Executive Director of icddr,b Prof. John David Clemens, Deputy Chief of Mission of US Embassy in Dhaka David Meale, Director of High Containment Facilities of the University of California, USA Prof Dr. Natasha K. Griffith, Executive Director of International Federation of Bio-safety Association MS Maureen Ellis and Chairman of the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology of DU Prof. Dr. Sharif Akhteruzzaman addressed it.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique stressed the need for ensuring safety and security at the bioscience laboratories. He urged the concerned authorities to take punitive measures against those culprits who will be involved in creating biological hazards for human being. He said the faculties and the researchers of DU are relentlessly working for scientific innovation and technological development in the country. He called upon all to work together to reduce risk in the fields of biological science and medical science research. The VC paid his glowing tribute to the memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the month of victory.
It may be mentioned that teachers and researchers from different countries are participating in the conference.
