A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of Dhaka (DU) and the ALICE Experiment, one of the largest research experiments of CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research) was signed on December 7, 2016 at the Vice-Chancellor’s office of DU for research collaboration. Treasurer of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin and Physics Coordinator of ALICE Experiment Federico Antinori signed the MoU on behalf of their respective side.
Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Chairman of the Department of Theoretical Physics Prof. Dr. Arshad Momen, Associate Professors Golam Dastegir Al-Quaderi and Dr. Swapan Ghosh were present on this occasion.
According to the MoU the University of Dhaka and the ALICE Experiment will work together to conduct scientific research. DU will contribute to the data analysis in particular the physics of Ultra peripheral collisions as Associate Member to the ALICE Collaboration. It will also participate in the operation of the cosmic ray detector. Besides, three faculty members of DU will get access to the internal ALICE documentation, software and meetings as well as scientific data.
