Day-long National Conference on Biochemistry held at DU
A day-long National Conference on “Biochemistry and Molecular Biology for Life Sciences” was held today December 10, 2016 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University (DU). The Bangladesh Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BSBMB) organized the program in cooperation with the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of DU. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the conference as the chief guest.
President of BSBMB Prof. Dr. M. Anwar Hossain presided over the inaugural session while Vice-Chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Prof. Dr. Aminul Haque Bhuyan, Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences of DU Prof. Dr. M. Imdadul Hoque, Convener of Conference Organizing Committee Dr. Firdausi Qadri, Chairman of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of DU Prof. Dr. M. Sayedul Islam and Secretary of the Organizing Committee Prof. Dr. AHM Nurun Nabi addressed it. General Secretary of BSBMB Prof. Dr. Hossain Uddin Shekhar gave vote of thanks.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique stressed the need for conducting biological research on mental function of human being to up-grade the human civilization. He said scientific research has been developed in the 21st century but humanitarian values have not been increased accordingly. Therefore, a human being is now killing another one in the name of religion across the world, he added. The miscreants are also trying to destroy the human civilization by misusing the scientific innovations, he mentioned. Terming the scientists are playing as pioneering role to protect various diseases including cancer and diabetes through their biological research, the VC hoped that the general people of the country would be enjoyed secure life in the days to come.
It may be mentioned that a total of 400 teachers, researchers from various public and private universities including Dhaka University participated in the conference.
