A four-day ‘International Model United Nations Conference’ organized by the Dhaka University Model United Nations Association (DUMUNA) began today December 19, 2016 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium of the university. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated it as the chief guest. The theme of this conference is “Embarking SDG Implementation for peaceful coexistence”.
Presided over by Ashabul Mahmud, Secretary General of the conference the inaugural function was addressed by DU Pro-VC (Academic) Prof. Dr. Nasreen Ahmad, Prof. Dr. Delwar Hossain of DU International Relations Department and Kazi Ali Reza, former Officer-in-Charge of United Nations Information Centre in Bangladesh.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique said, ‘We have witnessed successful implementation of millennium development goals and now we are on our way to implement sustainable development goals under the direct supervision and guidance of the United Nations. Today youths need quality education to become global citizen of the 21st century.
He stressed the need for strengthening the culture of peace everywhere to eliminate terrorism, fundamentalism and dogmatism from the world. The United Nations has played a crucial role in building international consensus on action for global development, the VC said.
It may be mentioned that about 500 youths and students from different countries of the world including Bangladesh, USA, UK, South Korea, India, Nepal, Afghanistan, Philippines and Indonesia are participating in the conference.
