The Bose Lecture-2017 was held today January 01, 2017 at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University (DU). The Bose Centre for Advanced Study and Research in Natural Sciences of DU organized this lecture to mark the 123^nd birth anniversary of renowned scientist Professor Sateyendra Nath Bose.

Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique presided over the function while Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman and Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof Dr. Md. Abdul Aziz addressed it as special guests. Professor of SUST Dr. M. Zafar Iqbal delivered key-note speech. Director of Bose Centre Professor Shamima Choudhury also addressed the function.

Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique urged the young generation to conduct scientific research by following the ideal of late Prof. S. N. Bose. He said, Prof. Satyendra Nath Bose is best known for his work on quantum mechanics. He also made outstanding contributions to the foundation of Bose-Einstein Statistics, the VC further said. Half of all the known class of particles has been named as “bosons” to honor him by another great Nobel Laureate theoretical physicist Paul Dirac, he added. Prof. S.N. Bose made Dhaka University known to the world only within few years of its establishment in 1921, the VC mentioned.  He was one of the founding faculty members of DU Physics Department, he pointed out.

It may be mentioned that Prof. S.N Bose was born on January 1, 1894 and died on February 4, 1974.
