A new trust fund titled “Prof. AKM Abdul Mannan Trust Fund” has been established at the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Applied Mathematics of Dhaka University (DU). Dr. Jannatul Ferdous, Associate Professor of the Department of Zoology of DU and daughter of late Prof. AKM Abdul mannan handed over  a cheque for Tk. 5 lac to DU Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin today January 12, 2017 at the Vice-Chancellor’s office to set up this trust fund.

Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Chairman of the Department of Mathematics Prof. Dr. Amulya Chandra Mandal, Chairman of the Department of Applied Mathematics Prof. Dr. Md. Abdus Samad and Acting Registrar Md. Enamuzzaman were present on this occasion.

Out of the income of this donation, every year two poor but meritorious students of DU Mathematics Department and Applied Mathematics Department will be given scholarship.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Arefin Siddique thanked the donor for her donation. He paid his glowing tribute to the memory of late Prof. AKM Abdul Mannan. The VC recalled the outstanding contribution of late Prof. Mannan to develop Mathematics education and research in the country.  He urged the students to make themselves as skilled Mathematician by following the ideals of late Prof. AKM Abdul Mannan.

It may be mentioned that late AKM Abdul Mannan was a Professor of the Department of Mathematics of Government College. He obtained his Honors and Master degrees from the Department of Mathematics of DU. He died in 2007. All of his three children are well established in the society.
