A three-day long geological conference with a theme of “Geology for Sustainable Development” has begun on December 7, 2017 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium of Dhaka University (DU). Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the conference as the chief guest. The Department of Geology of DU has organized this event.
Chairman of the Department of Geology of DU Prof. Dr. Kazi Matin U Ahmed presided over the inaugural function while Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences Prof. Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal addressed it as the special guest. Renowned Geologist of Germany Dr. Jurgen K. Leitz and Professor of DU Geology Department Dr. Badrul Imam delivered plenary lectures. Convener of Conference Organizing Committee Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qumrul Hassan gave vote of thanks.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman urged the professionals, academicians and researchers to work together for exploring geo-resources as well as mitigation of geo-hazards. He stressed the need for conducting interdisciplinary research to achieve success in this regard. He hoped that this conference would create a common platform for the researchers.
It may be mentioned that more than 200 academicians and researchers from home and abroad are participating in the conference. Thirty plenary lectures and papers will be presented in the conference.
