A new trust fund titled “Tahmina Banu Shilu Trust Fund” has been established at the Department of Public Administration of Dhaka University (DU). Dr. Mohammad Ali Taslim, Professor of the Department of Economics of DU and brother of late Tahmina Banu Shilu handed over a cheque for Tk. 25 lac to DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. Nasreen Ahmad on December 11, 2017 at the Vice-Chancellor’s office to set up this trust fund.
Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Acting Registrar Md. Enamuzzaman, some other family members and friends of late Tahmina Banu Shilu were present on this occasion.
Out of the income of this donation, every year two poor but meritorious students (one male and one female student) of the Department of Public Administration of DU will be given scholarship.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman paid his glowing tribute to the memory of late Tahmina Banu Shilu. He hoped that the poor but meritorious students of Public Administration Department would be highly benefited by this donation.
It may be mentioned that late Tahmina Banu Shilu obtained both BSS Honours and Masters degrees from the Department of Public Administration of DU. She was born in 1961 in Comilla district. She joined the BCS cadre service in 1989. Later, she worked in the National Bank Limited as a Senior Vice-President. She had expressed a fond desire to establish a fund for needy students of Public Administration Department before her death. She also kept some money for this purpose. Tahmina Banu Shilu died on September 2, 2017
