A three-day long 10th Asian Federation of Biotechnology (AFOB) Regional Symposium (ARS) has been formally inaugurated on January 28, 2017 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium of Dhaka University (DU). Asian Federation of Biotechnology, Bangladesh Region organized the event in cooperation with the Department of Microbiology of DU. Theme of symposium was on “Innovations in Biotechnology for Economic Development”.
Chairman of the Organizing Committee Prof. Dr. Md. Mozammel Hoq presided over the inaugural function while Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Imdadul Hoque and Secretary General of AFOB Prof. Dr. Yoon-Mo-Koo addressed it. Secretary of the Organizing Committee Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Ahsan gave vote of thanks.
Speakers of the symposium stressed the need for conducting advanced level research on biotechnology for the benefit of human being. They also emphasized on undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programs among the academicians and researchers of Asian region. They hoped that this symposium would play an important role to enhance the quality of researchers.
It may be mentioned that scientists, researchers and biotechnologists from Bangladesh, China, South Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Japan, India, Nepal and Vietnam are participating in the symposium. More than two hundred research papers will be presented in the three-day symposium.
