Two meritorious students of Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded “Prof. AKM Abdul Mannan Trust Fund Scholarship” for their outstanding academic performances. The recipients of scholarships are- Md. Ashraful Islam (Mathematics) and Mustafizur Rahman (Applied Mathematics). Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman distributed scholarships among the students as chief guest at a function on November 12, 2018 at the VC’s lounge of the university.
Treasurer of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin presided over the function while Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Aziz, Chairman of the Department of Mathematics Prof. Dr. Amal Krishna Halder, Associate Professor of the Department of Applied Mathematics Dr. Muhammad Ferdows, daughter of late Prof. AKM Abdul Mannan and Associate Professor of the Department of Zoology of DU Dr. Jannatul Ferdous and Acting Registrar Md. Enamuzzaman were present on this occasion.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman urged the students to work for the betterment of their families, societies as well as the country. Students have to always engage themselves with good deeds, he mentioned.
It may be mentioned that late AKM Abdul Mannan was a Professor of the Department of Mathematics of various Government Colleges. He obtained both Honors and Master degrees from the Department of Mathematics of DU. All of his three children are well established in the society. He died on July 10, 2009 in Dhaka.
