A two-day long National Conference on “Conservation of Animal Habitants for Sustainable Biodiversity” has begun on December 07, 2018 at Bangladesh Shishu Academy Auditorium. Department of Zoology of Dhaka University (DU) and Zoological Society of Bangladesh jointly organized this conference.
Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman presided over the inaugural function while former Chairman of Bangladesh University Grants Commission Emeritus Prof. Dr. AK Azad Chowdhury addressed it as the chief guest. Prof. Selima Khatun, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs Dr. Aparup Chowdhury, Chief Conservator of Forests Mohammad Shafiul Alam Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Burdwan, India Prof. Dr. Nimai Chandra Saha, Managing Director of ACI Ltd. Dr. FH Ansary, Country Director of Worldfish, Bangladesh Dr. Malcolm W Dickson, Member of Bangladesh Public Service Commission Md. Shajahan Ali Mollah and Pro-Vice Chancellor of Rajshahi University Prof. Dr. Ananda Kumar Shaha addressed the conference as special guests. Chairman of the Department of Zoology of DU Prof. Humayun Reza Khan delivered welcome address while President of Zoological Society of Bangladesh Prof. Dr. Gulshan Ara Latifa gave vote of thanks. General Secretary of Zoological Society of Bangladesh Dr. Tapan Kumar Dey conducted the program.
Former Chairman of Bangladesh University Grants Commission Emeritus Prof. Dr. AK Azad Chowdhury stressed the need for conservation of animal habitats to preserve biodiversity. He said conservation of biodiversity is a constitutional obligation of all the citizen.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman emphasized on conservation of animal habitants to achieve sustainable development goals. He called upon the researchers, academicians and professionals to play an effective role to achieve these goals. He said, the Almighty Allah has created the earth for human being, animals, insects and other creatures with many natural resources. We have to protect our environment by utilizing all of these resources properly, he pointed out.
It may be mentioned that academicians, researchers and professionals from home and abroad are participating in the conference.
