A two-day long international conference on Climate Change has begun today, March 1, 2019 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium of Dhaka University (DU). DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated this conference. Center for Climate Change Study and Resource Utilization of DU has organized the conference in cooperation with Bangladesh Association of Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows (BACSAF) and Alumni Association of German Universities in Bangladesh (AAGUB).
Presided over by Chairman of Conference Organizing Committee Prof. Dr. Rafiqul Islam the inaugural function of this conference was addressed by German Ambassador Mr. Peter Fahrenholtz as chief guest and Senior Secretary of Education Ministry Sohorab Hossain as special guest. The function was also addressed by Secretary of Conference Organizing Committee Prof. Dr. Md. Nurnabi.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman urged the leaders of the world community to come forward with their cooperation to make the global environment safe. He said, the global warming is increasing rapidly due to emission of greenhouse gases. Industrial revolution in developed countries triggers this emission of greenhouse gases, he added. Developing countries like Bangladesh are suffering hazard from these emissions and being affected by the effect of climate change, he said. Bangladesh is now facing challenges as one of the most vulnerable countries, he mentioned. The VC thanked organizers of this international conference on climate change and hoped that some effective and pragmatic recommendations would come out of this conference to mitigate problems and crisis of climate changes.
German Ambassador Mr. Peter Fahrenholtz stressed the need for creating awareness on climate change issues among the people so that they can play effective role in this regard. He called upon the researchers to work together to resolve this burning problems. German Government will work together with Bangladesh in the fields of global warming and climate change issues, he said.
Many local and internationally renowned experts and scientists from USA, Canada, Australia, Germany, Italy and India are participating at this conference.
