A modern scientific research instrument titled ‘DNA Sequencing Analyzer’ has been established at the Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences (CARS) of Dhaka University (DU) to further develop Genetic Engineering & Research Laboratory of the university. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman formally inaugurated the Lab as chief guest at a function held today April 3, 2019 at the CARS auditorium.
Director of CARS Prof. Dr. Golam Mohammad Bhuiyan presided over the function while Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Samad addressed it as special guest. Chief Scientist of CARS Dr. Gazi Nurun Nahar Sultana delivered welcome speech.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman urged the teachers and researchers to play pioneering role to improve health services in the country utilizing the ‘DNA Sequencing Analyzer’ properly. He said, DU family as well as whole nation will be benefited from this laboratory. He hoped that the researchers of this lab would play an important role to prevent cancer, thalassemia and other diseases in the country.
It may be mentioned that many types of services including forensic, breast cancer and thalassemia tests will be provided to the nation from this ‘DNA Sequencing Analyzer’.
