A ‘Foundation Day Lecture-2019’ of the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies of Dhaka University (DU) was held today, September 3, 2019 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban marking the 20th founding anniversary of the department. DU VC Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman attended it as chief guest. UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Ms. Mia Seppo delivered the ‘Foundation Day Lecture-2019’.
Presided over by DU Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin the function was also addressed by DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Samad, DU Social Sciences Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Sadeka Halim and founding Chairman of the
Department Prof. Dr. Dalem Ch. Barman as special guests. Departmental Chairman Md. Touhidul Islam delivered welcome address.
DU VC Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman thanked departmental teachers and students for the 20th founding anniversary of the department. He also thanked UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Ms. Mia Seppo for presenting an excellent lecture on global terrorism, conflict, unrest and climate change. He said, global terrorism, unrest and climate change have posed a serious threat to peace. He lauded the role, initiative and commitment of United Nations to combat global terrorism for restoration peace everywhere in the world.
Referring to Rohingya crisis DU VC said, internal peace and security of Bangladesh have been disrupted by about 1.1 million Rohingya refugees. UN would play a pragmatic role to resolve Rohingya crisis, he hoped.
In her speech UN Resident Coordinator Ms. Mia Seppo lauded the role of Bangladesh in upholding human rights and peace keeping.
After the discussion a peace rally led by DU VC Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman was brought out in the campus.
