A three-day long fourth international conference on “Biotechnology in Health and Agriculture (ICBHA)” has begun today November 11, 2019 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium of Dhaka University (DU). Global Network of Bangladeshi Biotechnologists (GNOBB) in association with Innovations in Plant and Food Sciences (IPFS) has organized the event.
Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman presided over the inaugural function while Agriculture Minister Dr. Mohammad Abdur Razzaque, MP addressed it as the chief guest. UGC Chairman Prof. Dr. Kazi Shahidullah, Comilla University Vice- Chancellor Prof. Dr. Emran Kabir Chowdhury, Executive Director of Krishi Gabeshona Foundation Dr. Wais Kabir and Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences of DU Prof. Dr. M. Imdadul Hoque addressed the inaugural function as special guests. President of GNOBB Prof. Dr. Zeba Islam Seraj delivered welcome speech while Conference Secretary Dr. ABM Md. Khademul Islam gave vote of thanks. General Secretary of GNOBB Prof. Dr. M. Manjurul Karim also addressed it.
Agriculture Minister Dr. Mohammad Abdur Razzaque said, Bangladesh has made tremendous progress in all sectors including agriculture, health, education, trade, business and economics under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The government has already taken pragmatic measures to make Bangladesh free from hunger and poverty, he pointed out. He emphasized on ensuring food security and nutrition in the country through proper utilization of biotechnology.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman urged the biotechnologists to play an effective role in ensuring food safety in the country. He stressed the need for conducting combined efforts of academicians, biotechnologists and industrialists in this regard.
It may be mentioned that teachers and researchers from different countries including Bangladesh, India, China, Japan, Malaysia, Germany, USA, Canada and UK are participating in the conference.
