Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique urged the leaders of Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) to raise their voices for nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament. He said sane voices arguing for nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament must prevail. Total nuclear disarmament is absolutely necessary for guaranteeing that the world will not be obliterated in a future conflict between large powers, the VC further said. “It is in our national interest to see nuclear non-proliferation and total nuclear disarmament not only in our region but throughout the world”, he added. Our views on nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament exactly the same as that of IPU, he also mentioned. Quoting the speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman which was delivered at the United Nations General Assembly on September 25, 1974 the VC said we must stop nuclear arms race to ensure peace, stability and food for all mankind.
