The Institute of Health Economics (IHE) is a unique establishment under the auspices of the University of Dhaka. The Institute of Health Economics (IHE) was established in June 1998 with the collaborative support of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), the University of Dhaka and the Department for International Development (DFID), The institute offers undergraduate and post-graduate degrees as well as professional training and research in Health Economics and related areas.
IHE’s research covers all the issues of health economics related to the six building blocks of the health systems: service delivery; health workforce; health information systems; access to essential medicines; healthcare financing; health sector leadership and governance. Our research has a focus on health insurance and innovative financing, impact evaluation of interventions in heath sector, economic analysis of disease burdens and health concerns, health technology and efficiency assessment of health systems. Other research areas include nutrition, family planning, social safety net, food safety, pharmacoeconomics and environmental health including medical waste management.
IHE is also associated with different innovative activities for better performance of health system, e.g., IHE played the pioneering role in introducing group health insurance for the students of Dhaka University.
