Welcome to the Department of Geology at the University of Dhaka—one of the oldest and most esteemed Earth science departments in Bangladesh.

Our department stands at the intersection of tradition and innovation. With a proud legacy of academic excellence, field-based learning, and dedicated research, we prepare our students to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving world. From tectonics to geophysics, hydrogeology to environmental studies, our curriculum blends rigorous theoretical foundations with hands-on field experience and laboratory training.

We are proud of our vibrant academic community, which includes nationally and internationally recognized faculty members, enthusiastic students, and committed staff. Our well-equipped laboratories, specialized museum, and comprehensive seminar library ensure that our students have access to the resources they need to grow as scientists and leaders.

Fieldwork remains at the heart of our education. We believe that to truly understand the Earth, one must observe, measure, and reflect on its processes in real environments. These field experiences are often the most transformative aspect of our students' academic journeys.

We also nurture community, leadership, and creativity through various student-led chapters and clubs, including SEG, AAPG, EAGE, SPE, IAEG, ISPRS as well as vibrant cultural, photography, and women’s forums. These platforms help our students grow as responsible, thoughtful professionals and global citizens.

Our alumni have gone on to become distinguished researchers, educators, energy and environmental professionals, and government leaders—both in Bangladesh and around the world. They continue to contribute meaningfully in academia, industry, and policy-making. We value this dynamic alumni network as a source of inspiration, collaboration, and mentorship for our current students.

As we embrace a semester-based academic system and move toward a more dynamic, research-driven environment, we remain committed to maintaining academic excellence, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and equipping our graduates with the tools to make meaningful contributions in geosciences and beyond.

I invite you to explore our department, connect with our people, and become part of our ever-growing journey.
